The simple answer is yes/no! All companies who make things need to sell sell sell. Costs are high and progress needs to be constantly moving to encourage buying. This is not unique to cycling. It is my few that progress is a double edged sword. If you take the parameters of the cycling product it is very narrow indeed. That is not to say that you can’t improve and make better bikes, of course you can however we see all too often good ideas discarded to be replaced by ideas which sell better such as weight reduction.
